UPDATE!

The Roseway theater’s marquee has been installed. This is exciting because it is getting close! Looks like the only things on the exterior that needs to be put in place is all the neon pieces. You can see all the holes for it under the sign and in black areas also that rose is gonna be all neon.

The wait is killing me. I think the Sandy Jug is gonna have to step up and make some neon boobs or at least neon the jug part.

The Roseway Theater located near the corner of NE 72nd Ave and NE Sandy Blvd, just 6 blocks from our house, is reopening soon.

A few moths ago our only neighborhood theater (that showed $6 first run movies) changed its marquee to CLOSED. We were a bit surprised because it was a cool, although run-down, little theater. Sure the seats pretty much had it, in the summer time they used giant noisy fans to cool things off (while the movie was playing!) and ALL the lights would turn off to pitch-black once the movie started - this was actually one of the coolest things of the theater - but it had a $6 ticket price, sold huge tubs of pop corn for something like $2 (no it weren’t the hippie kind) and it was newer movies AND it was in walking distance from our house.

So we were a little sad to find that the CLOSED sign, after 3 months, still said CLOSED. But a few weeks ago after sharing a chocolate malt shake with Kamala at the old Fairley’s Pharmacy across the street we decided to check out the newly opened bike shop on the corner. We noticed there was some action going on in the theater lobby.

We went in to find a woman who seemed to be remodeling the popcorn/snack counter. Actually the inside of the theater looked very different. There was some newly recovered stencil work, fresh paint, new carpet was just getting put in. The woman told us that the old theater got bought by someone that runs another movie theater in Camas. She could tell we were both very excited to hear this. We explained how we were worried the Roseway was closed for good. She assured us that it would be “Opening again, completely refurbished, done up right.” And with a bunch of imported candies, local beers, and the usual snacks. Also new cushy seats will be installed with a lot more room.

The theater is suppose to open at the end of this month. It is already July 1st and the marquee is still bare, I mean it isn’t even installed. I’m impatient. But I don’t mind if they don’t open for another month. If they are making the theater so that it is just right then I’m sure it will be worth the wait. I can’t wait.

My secret wish is that when it finally opens, they will show Wall•E. I hope!

Oh also - she said the theater will be all Digital. That’s pretty Hi-Tech for this neighborhood!

One of the first bands to be signed onto SubPop, Swallow was on KEXP’s AudiOasis yesterday celebrating 20 years of the record label’s existence. This is a capture of that show streamin from my server. Neither subpop nor kexp gave me permission. I don’t think our friend Chris (vocals and guitar) will mind though.

On July 12th - 13th is the SubPop 20 Festival over at Marymoor Park.
